Sound Familiar?

Does this sound like your week?

  • Reaching for ibuprofen before your first meeting is even over
  • Pressure that starts at the base of your skull and settles in behind one eye
  • Turning the office lights off and hoping nobody knocks for twenty minutes
  • Waking up with a sore jaw and a headache that already has a head start
  • Missing your kid’s game because the drive home would cost you the night
  • Knowing by 2pm exactly how the rest of the day is going to go

Why It Happens

A headache is a symptom. Something causes it.

Here’s the part most people never get told. The top joints of your neck share nerve wiring with your head and face. When those joints stiffen up, your brain can read the signal as pain behind the eye or across the temple. Add tight muscles at the base of the skull, a jaw that clenches all night, and eight hours of screen posture, and you have a headache with a physical cause. Not every headache works this way. A lot of them do.

That kind of headache doesn’t respond to another pill, because the pill never touches the source. A cause-first evaluation sorts out whether your neck is driving it, and that answer changes everything about the plan. You’re the one who keeps the day running for everybody else. Which is exactly why you’ve been quietly swallowing this one for years. One hour with Dr. Moy is how you find out what’s actually going on.

The Honest Truth

Headaches don’t wait for a lighter week.

If you keep waiting

  • You start building your week around the days you can afford to lose
  • The dose that used to work stops being enough, so the bottle empties faster
  • The neck that’s feeding them keeps stiffening, and the gaps between headaches get shorter

If you start this week

  • You find out by the end of visit one whether your neck is driving them
  • Hands-on work at the base of the skull starts before you leave the building
  • You get a plan with an endpoint: a real one, not an open tab of visits

Nobody regrets starting too early. Every week, someone in our clinic says they regret waiting.

How We Fix It

The same four phases. Built for headaches.

Every plan has an endpoint. Here’s what the four phases look like when a headache starts in the neck.

Weeks 1–2

Pain

Turn the volume down.

Hands-on work to the upper neck and jaw muscles, plus dry needling when it fits, starting your very first visit.

Weeks 2–6

Prime

Free up what’s feeding it.

Targeted mobility for the upper neck and mid-back, the segments that keep sending the signal north.

Weeks 6–10

Perform

Make the fix hold.

Deep neck and postural strengthening builds the endurance a long screen day demands, so hour seven stops being the trigger.

Weeks 10+

Prevent

Catch the next one early.

Your desk, your sleep, and your early warning signs, so you know what to do at the first twinge instead of losing the day: that’s the endpoint, not just another appointment.

I had an amazing experience rehabbing my knee here after my ACL and meniscus surgery. I worked with Andrew for about 5 weeks and he was awesome. Every session was a full hour and he always paid attention to how I was progressing, adjusting things as I got stronger. He explained what we were doing and why, which really helped me during the whole recovery process. Highly recommend Andrew if you’re looking for a physical therapist!

Questions, Answered

What people ask before booking for headaches.

Most patients feel meaningful change within 4 to 6 visits. A full plan runs through all four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform, and Prevent, usually over 8 to 10 weeks depending on how long you have been dealing with it. Either way you get a plan with an endpoint, so you always know which phase you are in and what is left.

No. Illinois has direct access, so you can book an evaluation with a Doctor of Physical Therapy without a physician referral. Some insurance plans still ask for one before they will pay, so we check your benefits before your first visit and tell you exactly where you stand.

Yes. Every session at Amplify Physical Therapy and Wellness is one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, every visit, for the full hour. You are never handed to an aide and never share your appointment with another patient, which is why your plan can be adjusted in real time as your body responds.
