Arthritis treatment in Bolingbrook.

The mornings that take an hour to loosen. The word arthritis, said like a verdict. Stiffness and weakness are treatable, and that’s where we start.

Sound Familiar?

Does this sound like your mornings?

  • An hour of moving around before your hands feel like your hands again
  • Being told it’s just arthritis, and to come back when it’s bad enough for surgery
  • Reaching for the handrail on every set of stairs, going up and coming down
  • Getting up off the floor in stages, and planning the whole thing first
  • Knowing the weather changed before anyone told you
  • Saying no to a walk you’d have said yes to two years ago

Two or more? Keep reading.

Why It Happens

Arthritis is on the X-ray. It isn’t the whole story.

Here’s what rarely gets explained. Joint wear shows up on plenty of scans belonging to people with no pain at all. What usually drives the pain is what happened around the joint. It lost motion, so every movement runs to the end of a shorter range. The muscles that used to absorb the load got weaker, so the joint takes more of it. And the tissue around the joint got irritated and stayed that way. Stiff joints also move less, and joints are fed by movement.

We can’t rewind the imaging. We can change how much that joint has to absorb, and that is usually what changes how you feel. A cause-first evaluation shows which of those pieces is yours. You’ve spent years taking care of everyone else. Nothing about that was weakness, and it’s exactly why this one waited so long.

The Honest Truth

Arthritis doesn’t wait for a better week.

If you keep waiting

  • Every month of moving less costs you strength the joint was counting on
  • The stiffer one joint gets, the more the joints above and below have to cover
  • Movements you avoid become activities you skip, and the circle keeps tightening

If you start this week

  • You learn which lost motion and which weak muscles are driving it, visit one
  • Hands-on work to free the joint starts before you leave the building
  • You get a plan with an endpoint: a real one, not an open tab of visits

Nobody regrets starting too early. Every week, someone in our clinic says they regret waiting.

How We Fix It

The same four phases. Built for arthritic joints.

Every plan has an endpoint. Here’s what the four phases look like for a joint with arthritis.

Weeks 1–2

Pain

Settle the flare down.

Hands-on joint work and smarter daily loading calm the irritated tissue around the joint, starting your very first visit.

Weeks 2–6

Prime

Make mornings shorter.

Targeted mobility gives the joint back range, and range is what makes that first hour of the day easier.

Weeks 6–10

Perform

Strength is the treatment.

Progressive strengthening around the joint means the muscles absorb more of every step, and the joint absorbs less.

Weeks 10+

Prevent

Keep what you got back.

A short routine you’ll actually do, plus the walks and stairs you came here for, tested before you’re cleared: that’s the endpoint, not just another appointment.

I came to see Dr Moy with severe arthritis in my knee. My muscles were out of shape from lack of movement. He worked with me and now I can walk with no pain in my hips and minimal pain in my knee. I feel that he gave me my life back again. I would highly recommend him.

Questions, Answered

What people ask before booking for arthritis.

Most patients feel meaningful change within 4 to 6 visits. A full plan runs through all four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform, and Prevent, usually over 8 to 10 weeks depending on how long you have been dealing with it. Either way you get a plan with an endpoint, so you always know which phase you are in and what is left.

No. Illinois has direct access, so you can book an evaluation with a Doctor of Physical Therapy without a physician referral. Some insurance plans still ask for one before they will pay, so we check your benefits before your first visit and tell you exactly where you stand.

Yes. Every session at Amplify Physical Therapy and Wellness is one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, every visit, for the full hour. You are never handed to an aide and never share your appointment with another patient, which is why your plan can be adjusted in real time as your body responds.
